Pouring a box of dildos across a table, in 1873 Anthony Comstock struck fear in the hearts of congress and passed a law allowing the post office to confiscate "obscene" materials. This turn of the century crusade turned in a hundred year long battle against the suppression of queer and erotic media.  In this history storytelling event, local historian Quinn L Bishop will recount tales of six sex radicals from the victorian era to the hippie era who helped us win back the right to free and filthy speech. By covering how we won in the past, we can find a blueprint to protect it in the future.

People of all genders and sexualities are welcome. Can't make it in person? Choose the "Recording Ticket" option. You'll get a dropbox link to a video recording of the lecture that will be available for one week from the date it's emailed to you. Please give us a few days to edit and upload the video after the event. Video may be edited to preserve the anonymity of in-person attendees, but you'll have Quinn's full presentation.

About the Educator: Quinn L Bishop considers herself a professional history nerd and storyteller. in 2019, she founded Queer Underground Tours, a walking tour in the French Quarter and has since expanded to content creation under the same name. Her work in this field has opened up doors to begin a career as a writer, actor, and director. She believes that queer history needs to be told in a queer way, and hopes her work can reach parts of the community left behind by traditional public history methods
